In torturous heat, the girls' tennis team was pitted on Tuesday against the Divison I Bethesda-Chevy Chase Barons. Although both teams played assiduously and appeared evenly matched, the Barons ended on top, winning 5-2 and sending the Blazers' record to 5-2. Second singles freshman Shilpa Kannan and fourth singles senior co-captain Priyanka Gokhale gave the Blazers the two winning matches, but coach David Ngbea was disappointed with the Blazers' overall performance.

BLAZER FIELD, Sept. 24 – Blair's JV field hockey team smashed the Rockville Rams Monday, improving their record to 3-1-1. The Blazers locked horns with the Rams in a nearly scoreless first half, but after a skillful goal with one minute remaining in the half, the Blazers knocked down their opponents with constant pressure on goal.

The two evenly matched teams were tied 1-1 for a majority of the game, but the Blazers' strong offense pulled through in overtime and brought their record to 2-1-1.


Blazers outplay Bengals on the tennis courts

The girls' tennis team surpassed the Blake Bengals in a closely matched 4-3 game, lifting its season record to 5-1. The Blazers beat out the competition with solid wins from several players but also fell in key matches, including the top two singles. Coach David Ngbea insists that the team needs to keep improving its net game and footwork in order to play at optimal standards.


Quince Orchard crushes girls' varsity volleyball

The Quince Orchard Cougars triumphed over Blair's girls' varsity volleyball on Wednesday, evening Blair's record at 2-2. The Blazers started off promisingly, winning the first set 25-18 but lost the last three, 25-16, 25-22 and 25-16. Although both teams were evenly matched, the Blazers fell short due to errors and faults.

Despite dropping its season-opener against Watkins Mill, the girls' JV volleyball team showed confidence and enthusiasm against Paint Branch on Tuesday. With the encouragement of the varsity team as well as parents and coaches, the players were hyped for their first home match-up of the season. The energy was not enough though, as the Blazers, plagued by inconsistent serves and a lack of communication, lost in two sets, 25-18 and 25-14.

The varsity girls' volleyball team outlasted the Paint Branch Panthers in an up-and-down match on Tuesday, winning three out of four sets to bring their season record to 1-1. The girls pulled off impressive wins in the first two sets, 25-23 and 25-12, but fell 25-23 in the third. The team recovered in the fourth set, pulling a narrow 26-24 win to capture the game 3-1.
