In the emotional last home game for seniors on the girls' tennis team, the Blazers fell in a disappointing 7-0 shutout against the Churchill Bulldogs. The Bulldogs dominated with superior technical ability, but the Blazers stood their ground and fought back in a great change of game attitude from previous games, according to Coach David Ngbea.
Junior Lily Ross is an artist under pressure. The clock ticks as she paints stripes of gold and purple between square slices of wheat. A member of Blair's Pom Squad, Ross, tripping over loaded utensils and swerving between globs of jelly, is leading a PB&J sandwich-making marathon to raise money for the upcoming year.
BLAZER FIELD, Oct. 3 – Blair's JV field hockey team decimated the Wheaton Knights on Monday night in a one-sided match. After a disheartening loss at the hands of Poolesville, Blair tested new plays and re-positioned players, which proved successful in the victory.
CANDY CANE PARK, Oct. 2 - The Lady Blazers came away with a narrow victory against Bethesda Chevy Chase High School with a score of 27-28 on Tuesday, but the boys suffered a whopping defeat of 15-48. Despite the loss, most of the team set personal records on the flat and fast course.
BLAZER FIELD, OCT. 3- The Blazer's home field advantage paid off once more as Blair's varsity field hockey team defeated Wheaton in their third home game, bringing their record to 3-3-1. Playing with consistency, the Blazers attacked Wheaton's goalie circle throughout the game which earned them the 5-0 win.
With the Redskins enjoying their bye after all but gift-wrapping a win for the Giants last week, we can drift our attention to the rest of the league. The Patriots, Colts, Steelers, Cowboys and Packers (wait, the Packers?) are all undefeated as we move into the fourth week. Meanwhile our beloved sports editor Andrew has jostled to the front of the pack of so-called "experts." This week of games will bring the hope of the playoffs to some teams while effectively erasing it from others. And if Andrew continues to lead, an investigation will ensue into his possible use of illegal video equipment.
The girls' varsity volleyball team pummeled the Northwood Gladiators in three straight sets on Friday in a quick game that boosted their season record to 4-3. The Blazers dominated in the first and second sets with strong finishes of 25-18 and 25-14 respectively, but slipped in the third for a lengthy set that eventually ended with a 31-29 win.
The Blair varsity football team dropped its fourth straight game on Friday night, shut out at Whitman, 30-0.
Blair's varsity boys' soccer team failed to convert key scoring opportunities, resulting in a 3-0 loss to the Springbrook Blue Devils. Blair fell for the third game in a row, leaving them at a disappointing 1-3-1 for the season.
DERWOOD, MD, Sept. 25 - The boys cross country team lost to Magruder 25-32 and the girls won by a slim margin of 27-28, leaving both the girls' and boys' record at 1-3.

The Blazers locked horns with the Rams in a nearly scoreless first half, but after a skillful goal with one minute remaining in the half, the Blazers knocked down their opponents with constant pressure on goal.
In torturous heat, the girls' tennis team was pitted on Tuesday against the Divison I Bethesda-Chevy Chase Barons. Although both teams played assiduously and appeared evenly matched, the Barons ended on top, winning 5-2 and sending the Blazers' record to 5-2. Second singles freshman Shilpa Kannan and fourth singles senior co-captain Priyanka Gokhale gave the Blazers the two winning matches, but coach David Ngbea was disappointed with the Blazers' overall performance.
The Ohio shootout last week gave fans a taste of exciting offenses and laughable defenses, New England proved they belong with the NFL elite without a video man, while Washington managed to make Donovan McNabb look like a lost rookie. Could a 3-0 beginning for the Skins be possible? We hope so. Meanwhile, Nitin looks to even up the scoreboard after an embarrassing start to this year's NFL picks that has him looking up at Andrew, Pia and Anshul, who are all currently tied for the lead. The two evenly matched teams were tied 1-1 for a majority of the game, but the Blazers' strong offense pulled through in overtime and brought their record to 2-1-1.
BLAZER FIELD, Sept. 5 - Blair's varsity field hockey team walked off the field with a tied score of 1-1 with Richard Montgomery today, bringing their record to 1-2-1. The Blazers' lack of cohesion and failure to capitalize on scoring opportunities stopped them short of victory, ending the game in a frustrating, scoreless double-overtime.
The Blair varsity football team was shown no mercy on Thursday night, as they fell to 0-3 after a brutal loss at home to the Gaithersburg Trojans, 45-0.
The Quince Orchard Cougars triumphed over Blair's girls' varsity volleyball on Wednesday, evening Blair's record at 2-2. The Blazers started off promisingly, winning the first set 25-18 but lost the last three, 25-16, 25-22 and 25-16. Although both teams were evenly matched, the Blazers fell short due to errors and faults.

The Blazers beat out the competition with solid wins from several players but also fell in key matches, including the top two singles. Coach David Ngbea insists that the team needs to keep improving its net game and footwork in order to play at optimal standards.

Despite a valiant effort, the varsity boys' soccer team let their first half mistakes get the best of them as their first home game ended in a dispiriting 3-1 loss to the Whitman Vikings.
WHITMAN HIGH SCHOOL, Sept. 18 - The girls' varsity soccer had yet to be challenged this year, dominating all of their opponents until their 1-0 loss to the Vikings. The Vikings combined blistering speed and physical play to overcome the Blazers team work.
The girls' tennis team upped their record to 3-1, dominating all seven matches against the Division III Springbrook Blue Devils. The Blazers improved their net game and played consistently despite the windy weather.
The hyped-up match between fierce rivals Blair (0-2) and Northwood (1-1) ended sorely for the red-and-white, as the Gladiators took the lead for the first and final time in the last minute of play to win by a score of 18-13.
It may only be the second week of the season, but emotions are already running high. The Buffalo Bills are praying that their reserve tight end will walk again, the New England Patriots were found guilty of cheating and lo and behold -- the Redskins won!
