Field Hockey suffers overtime loss to Northwest

Last Thursday, Blair Varsity field hockey (2-6-1) lost 0-1 in a heartbreaker to the Northwest Jaguars (5-6). The Blazers went head-to-head for the entire 60 minute regulation, but the Jaguars were able to make the decisive shot in sudden-death overtime.

The Montgomery Blair Blazers (4-2) used the passing game on offense and forced turnovers on defense to beat the Springbrook Blue Devils (4-2) by a score of 38-20 after the game was delayed nearly two hours due to lightning Friday night.

Blair Varsity field hockey (2-5-1) successfully held the notorious Wootton Patriots (10-1) Thursday night, though loosing 0-3. Wootton, known for their aggressive and impressive play, did what they always do in the rout. Blair however, played an incredible game but just couldn't keep pace.

Blair Varsity field hockey (2-4-1) was overcome by the Walt Whitman Vikings (5-2) Tuesday night, losing by a score of 0-3. The Blazers had an incredible first half, but lost speed in the second half. The team struggled to move the ball up the field, and Whitman's offense took advantage in the second half.

Boys' soccer trounces Einstein

Blair varsity boys' soccer (8-0) beat the Einstein Titans (6-2) 4-0 in a heated game that was close until the end. Throughout the game it looked as if the Blazers might lose their perfect record, but strong performances from senior forwards Sean Munroe and Jimmy McMillian led to late goals that eventually won Blair the game.


Girls' soccer falls to B-CC

The Blazers (6-3) lost to the B-CC Barons (5-1) 4-2 in a hard-fought game on Wednesday night. It was anybody's game until the 60th minute, after which B-CC scored three goals in 10 minutes.

In a tough game, the Blazers (4-2) lost to the Churchill Bulldogs (3-1) by a score of 6-0. From the beginning, Churchill was dominant, scoring four goals in 20 minutes. After a slow start, the Blazers made the Bulldogs fight for every possession with a steady back line and quick counterattacks.

Girls' varsity softball (14-3) had a quick and fairly unchallenging win against the Churchill Bulldogs (8-9-1) Monday night. The game was framed by a great defensive and pitching showing from the Blazers. Key fielding errors on the part of the Bulldogs allowed the Blazer offense to zoom past Churchill and close the game, 18-1 Blair.

On a beautiful night, in front of an energetic crowd, Blair baseball entered the playoffs with a bang. Behind solid pitching, excellent defense and a powerhouse offensive performance, Blair looked unstoppable, beating Walter Johnson High School after the mercy rule was called in the fifth inning with a score 12-1. The Blazers now move on to their second playoff game against Walt Whitman, the team that knocked Blair out of the playoffs last year.

On a burning hot Friday afternoon, the Blair boys' lacrosse team (8-6) set up against division champions Blake (9-4) in the second round of playoffs. Despite losing to them 10-4 during the regular season, the Blazers came out full of intensity and confidence. Battling for their lives, Blair managed to overcome a four-goal deficit and win the game in the dying minutes by a final score of 10-8

The Blair boys' varsity lacrosse team (7-6) entered their first playoff game Wednesday afternoon at home against Kennedy. After beating the Cavaliers 10-1 when the teams met during the regular season, the Blazers came out looking strong and confident. They ended up winning by 17 goals, and kept their first clean sheet of the season.


Girls' lacrosse loses playoff game against Springbrook

The season came to an end for the girls' lacrosse team (6-8) after they lost to the Springbrook Devils (12-1) in a grueling match Friday afternoon. The game began evenly with both teams' defenses holding strong, but Springbrook eventually gained the upper hand and won 7-3.
