Blair seniors excel in Regeneron Science Talent Search

On Jan. 23, the Society for Science and the Public and Regeneron named 40 finalists for the annual Regeneron Science Talent Search. Of these 40 high school seniors from across the nation, four of them hailed from Montgomery Blair High School, an astounding one tenth of all finalists.
Blair students receive full-tuition Posse scholarships

Ten Montgomery County Public School (MCPS) students were selected for full-tuition, four-year college scholarships from the Posse Foundation, a program which identifies public high school students with outstanding academic and leadership potential but have been overlooked by the traditional college selection process. Out of these ten MCPS students, three Blair seniors were selected: Marc Monteil, Darien Price and Samuel Teshome.
Emmanuel Jal returns to Blair

On January 18, Blazers filled the auditorium during fourth period to watch as multi-talented artist, Emmanuel Jal, a former child soldier, shared his life story. Jal spoke of his hardships as an 8-year-old soldier in the Second Sudanese Civil War.
New bike lanes to make Montgomery County more bike-friendly

Montgomery County is piloting a new comprehensive bicycle lane network. According to the Montgomery County Bicycle Master Plan, the goals of the new network are to increase bicycling rates in Montgomery County, create a convenient and low-stress bicycling network, provide equal access to low-stress bicycling for all members of the community and improve bicycling safety.

Blair student accidentally injures a teacher

On Monday, Nov. 27 during lunch, junior Blake threw a clay rock over the banister above Blair Boulevard, which fell on the head of teacher Elizabeth, who happened to be walking past the financial office on the first floor. The teacher ended up with a bleeding gash, a small lump on her head and headaches. Using Blair's security cameras, school administrators reviewed the incident in detail for evidence.

Teens in Montgomery County partnered with the Montgomery County Department of Recreation (MCDR) to hold a charity concert at Strathmore on Sunday, Sept. 17 from 5-7 p.m. The proceeds, including ticket sales, t-shirt sales and online donations, benefitted victims of hurricanes Harvey and Irma. Junior Isaque Oliveira was a quiet student with big ideas. Friends remember how he was fun and caring. In class he looked for the big picture and pursued topics further. Early on the morning of January 31, however, Oliveira took his own life. He is survived by his mother and father, his older brother and his younger sister.
